Marriott Platinum Elite Status

In this article, I want to cover how to get Marriott rewards for free and, more importantly, obtain the Platinum Elite Status, which is their highest tier. This status achievement will help you tremendously in the future.  

Overall, there are different ways to get the Gold Status, but you can simply status match into it with some other premium credit cards, such as the American Express Platinum Card. However, there are additional benefits to getting all of the other hotel companies, but with Marriott, higher status results are a little bit more difficult.  

Marriott’s Status Program

Marriott has several different tiers, and they are a little bit more stingy when it comes to allowing status matching. So you are able to get Gold Status with Marriott, but the higher statuses, like Platinum Elite or any others above, are more challenging to obtain. There are only a couple of ways to get higher status with Marriott.

Today we’ll discuss a creative strategy I found that you can get high status with Marriott, but it will take some effort to achieve.

The Status Levels

1. Member, 1 to 9 nights a year

2. Silver Elite 

3. Gold Elite, you are able to obtain this naturally through an American Express Platinum card and several others

4. Platinum Elite, this is the level we will be going for in this lesson.

5. Titanium Elite, 

6. Ambassador’s Elite

Platinum Elite Status Benefits Over Gold

With this status level, you would generally have to stay 50 to 74 nights yearly. With Platinum status, you will get guaranteed room level upgrades, five nights of suites throughout the year, lounge access, and you will have a 4 pm checkout time rather than the standard 2 pm checkout. You also get the other benefits of Gold level status, such as premium WiFi in the room. 

How to get the Platinum Elite

You will have to put in some work to get this status. But at the end of the day, your rooms are comped, being reimbursed for the stays, and you are using your cards to get the desired status.

We have all heard of mystery shoppers, and there is a website called Mercantile Systems.

If you don’t have an account with them already, sign up and verify your email (check your spam folder), then log in.  

Once enrolled, you can apply for any of the small jobs that they need testers. They will be verifying customer service standards for different companies.  

You will need to look at the certifications area. The certification site is HERE. To do hotel testing, they have their own track so you will have to get these. You will want to contact:  Rachael.rodriguez@mercsystems.com. 

When you reach out to her, you can say that Brandon Elliott sent you and you are looking for more information about “applying for one of the Marriott Jobs.” You want to know what that entails and the entire step-by-step process needed. She is the person that covers Marriott mystery shopping for Mercsystems.

Once you are certified and approved for one of their jobs, they will naturally upgrade you to the Platinum Elite status.  

Once you have that status, you will have a certain timeframe to go on a vacation and stay at one of their locations nationwide, their site shows the options that you can apply for. It is only nationwide, but there are some hotels in Hawaii that you can visit and review as well. You will pay to go to that location upfront, and they will reimburse your stay afterwards.  

Note that you will have to follow the directions that they provide to a “t” for the review process. There is a list of questions or details that you will need to file as the mystery shopper and inform them of your experience. They will give you access to the lounges and certain other benefits of the hotel.  

You get the review done and file it within the required 24 hours after the experience. Once submitted, you will receive a reimbursement for your stay. You will receive a little bit of money, and the free hotel plus benefits it came with it during your stay for the trip. The important thing is that the Marriott Elite status will stay with you for future travel.

I know people that travel using their free flight points to go to these locations and then keep on submitting applications and then go to the next location as they are picked for it.  

There are some cool things that you can do with this, including going to Hawaii or another destination that you desire anywhere in the country.
